What withdrawal looks like in a newborn
A newborn withdrawing from opioid exposure is affected from head to toe. Their whole nervous system is in crisis. Within hours, they experience tremors, a high-pitched cry that can't be soothed, trouble feeding and sleeping, skin so sensitive that a diaper change can set off screaming. Most of these infants are cared for in a neonatal intensive care unit, with bright lights and beeping monitors, built for a different kind of emergency.
Hushabye Nursery was created for babies and families affected by the opioid crisis. Twelve private rooms, where a parent, trained volunteer, or staff member holds each baby day and night. Frequent feeding, low light, quiet, skin-to-skin contact calms an overwhelmed nervous system. Most babies go home in about a week, and families go home stronger.

Why us
Fourteen years of getting care where it's hardest to find
For fourteen years, MED International has put medical equipment and trained technicians into hospitals in Tanzania and healthcare into orphanages in India. Phoenix is the same problem in a different place: care that works, and not enough of it to go round.
